Powdered Milk Saves Dinner

Extra, Extra!  Read all about it!

Now I know you are probably thinking, EW! Powdered milk, but before you completely turn off the idea, consider this.  4 kids, 3 of them drinking milk, 1 who would drink the entire gallon if you let her, and only 1 refridgerator.  (I've had dreams of owning a milk dispenser, lots of dreams).

Dinner started late, the 4th child wanted milk and so the cow was stuck on the couch, so it became imparative that dinner be made quickly.  So soon the water was boiling for potatos, the hamberger frying in the pan, and the green beans resting in the microwave.  In our short prep time we agreed to make mashed potatos, the flake kind.  Once they were happy and resting I asked for the milk that was to be added to the pan of grease from the hamberger to make gravey only to be handed 1/2 a cup of milk.  I opened the fridge to find: bottles of milk.  I'll admit, I thought for a second if the liquid gold would be good enough to make gravy with (hey, they all drank it at one point, right?) only to decide that I would not do that to myself.  So here is where the stand in took its place.  In 15 minutes (less time than it takes to get to the store) the gravy was done and waiting on the table for all inhabitants to gather around.

So, now I encourage you to grab a box, throw it in the back of your pantry, and remember it when you open the refridgerator and see empty space.

Another day I'll talk about my dream of the milk dispenser...

Time flies and bread rises

This summer I have found a family that loves bread and treats but is not the best at making them. Instead they have a orchard. In this orchard thy have three cherry trees, 5-6 different apples, plums, apricots, and grapes-OH My! I made a nice deal with her to trade her bread for fruit. She got oatmeal bread-a recipe to die for!-and we got cherries. After 30 minutes of picking I had enough for a cherry cobbler, cherry oatmeal, chocolate cherry muffins, and chocolate chip cherry muaf (muffin loaf). I am in quest of another batch this week, looming forward to something else to make.

The question is, do these loaves get added into the total for me making 6,000 loaves??

Back by popular request

I was planning on stopping once we either got our modification, or managed to raise enough to refinance. We received our modification, but had many people who kept asking about the project. So now I've decided to keep it up. I want to see if I can really make 6,000 loaves by hand for the food bank.

Now I just need to find a way to promote it!

Death to loaves 9 & 10 and good news.

Loaves 9 & 10 were all made. Cooling on the table. Then they disappeared... After some searching and questioning of the two furry ones, they were located. Half eaten and hidden in typical munching spots. They will be remade and sent next week.

On some other good news. We were granted a modification/refinance. I've never been so happy in my life. We have everyone to thank and I still find myself crying over the happiness. I never believed that it would happen but am amazed at how wonderful I feel. Thank you Wells Fargo. Thank you!

Loaves 4, 5, 6, 7, and Cinnamon Rolls!!!

We started at 8 am working away. Here is the start of the assembly line.

Shhhhh. We are sleeping. The 6 year old kept wanting to see them.

Here are the loaves. They were still warm when they were delivered to the food bank.

And here are the cinnamon rolls. I've been told they will be gone in 24 hours.

All in all it was a good day. We used every but of yeast we have so we had to go get more.

Thanks again.

And one more loaf has been ordered. This one is baker's choice.

We are still waiting on a call back from wells Fargo, but we did get promising news.

Crawling along...

I received an order for 2 loaves for a local buyer this week. That means that the total orders are at 6. That's 0.1% done! I'm on the board!

Wells Fargo sent out a new application packet this week. Asking me to refill out every document that they received two weeks ago. Yet when I call them they either have no idea they sent out the packet, or they have never seen the original documents.

I figure some day they will have it right. Until then I'll keep baking.

And if you missed it

UPDATE: we got two more loaves going to the food bank. So now the grand total is 8!
